Car Hits School Bus In Valley; Three Suffer Minor Injuries

From Staff And Wire Reports

Three children suffered minor injuries when a car hit a school bus Monday in the Spokane Valley.

The bus, carrying 22 Sunrise Elementary School students, was making a stop at 32nd and Adams when the accident occurred about 3:30 p.m., said Skip Bonuccelli, Central Valley School District spokesman.

A sixth-grade boy and two fourth-grade girls were taken to Valley Hospital and Medical Center, where they were treated and released, Bonuccelli said.

The woman driving the car also was released after treatment at the hospital, Bonuccelli said.

Authorities didn’t release her identity.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the accident but by late Monday had released no information.

The red lights on the bus were flashing and its stop sign was extended when the accident occurred at the bus stop, Bonuccelli said.

All students were checked by paramedics as they came off the bus, Bonuccelli said.

Most of them were loaded onto another bus that had been dispatched by the school district, he said. But parents of some children picked them up.

All parents were notified of the accident, Bonuccelli said.
