Cominco Fertilizers Posts Record Profits

Cominco Fertilizers Ltd., a Canadian-based firm that operates its Western regional office in Spokane, said higher prices and a retail expansion resulted in record earnings for 1994.

The Calgary-based company posted a $55.17 million (U.S.) profit on sales of $678.5 million, compared to earnings of $16.42 million on sales of $332.9 million in 1993.

Cominco sales exploded last year after the company bought Crop Production Services, a U.S. retail farm supply chain. Cominco in January expanded its retail sales outlets to more than 200 when it bought Western Farm Service Inc., a Northwest farm supply dealer.
