Lind Holds On To Best Liberty

Lind, Davenport and Valley Christian survived loser-out, first-round games as the Bi-League opened its boys basketball playoffs Monday night.
Lind held off Liberty 76-71, Davenport beat Christian Heritage 81-48 and Valley Christian overpowered Odessa 51-33 to gain the double-elimination portion of the tournament that resumes Friday at Reardan. The winners were all at home.

The Bulldogs (10-11) will take on Sprague-Harrington at 6 p.m. Friday after ousting the Lancers (4-17).
Lind, which shot 60 percent from the field to Liberty’s 33 percent, was led by Michael Watson with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Keltz had 22 points and Rob Schrenk 12 rebounds.
Matt Dauenhauer’s 21 points led Liberty, which used 3-point shooting to get back in the game. But Lind iced it from the free-throw line.

The Gorillas (10-11) draw WilburCreston at 4 p.m. Friday after ending the season for the Patriots (2-19).
Davenport jumped on top early with rebounding and ball-hawking and finished with 19 steals.
Tyson Deal scored half his game-high 18 points in the second quarter for Davenport and Tom Turnbough added 16 points and eight rebounds.
Jess Colvin led Christian Heritage with 14 points. Tim Fisher finished with 10 after scoring nine in the first quarter.

Valley Christian turned to a full-court press to overcome a 22-21 halftime deficit and pulled away from Odessa (3-16) in the third and fourth quarters. Balky shooting in the final period didn’t help the Tigers, either.
Matt Wright had 13 points and Travis Harken 12 to lead the Patriots. Randy Carlson was high for Odessa with 11.

The win earned the Falcons (4-16) the No. 4 seeding from the East and a date at Sprague against Odessa tonight at 7 when the girls tournament opens.
The Panthers (5-15) are No. 5 and will visit Lind at the same time.
Micaela Hampton had a game-high 16 points and 17 rebounds for S-H, 13 of the boards coming in the second half. Tiffany Ferderer led turnover-plagued Valley Christian with 13 points.
