California Trucker Opens Local Center

From Staff And Wire Reports

Con-Way Western Express, a growing California-based trucking company, has opened a center serving Spokane and Coeur d’Alene.

The West Plains facility, W6618 Thorpe Road, provides pick up and delivery services, combining freight at the 6,000-square-foot center for overnight or two-day delivery to similar destinations.

Rod Jeffers manages the center, which opened Jan. 16. The center employs eight people and operates six tractors and 12 trailers.

The Spokane center is part of Con-Way’s $9 million expansion that includes 22 new service centers in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia.

Expansion plans were accelerated last year when Congress gave interstate shippers the right to immediately begin instate deliveries without prior state approval.

Buena Park, Calif.-based ConWay is a unit of Consolidated Freightways Inc.
