Atlantic 10 Expands To 12
Virginia Tech, Dayton and La Salle have joined the Atlantic 10 Conference, with the official announcement to come today, according to reports from the Associated Press.
The three schools will begin play next season, along with other new members Xavier of Ohio and Fordham, according to a source involved in the expansion.
The Atlantic 10 loses West Virginia and Rutgers next season to the Big East.
Massachusetts, George Washington, St. Joseph’s, St. Bonaventure, Temple, Duquesne and Rhode Island are the other members of the Atlantic 10, which will have 12 members.
The Massachusetts-Rutgers game suspended because of a sit-in on the court to protest racially divisive remarks by the Rutgers University president will be played from the point of interruption next month.
The game was at halftime Tuesday night when it was halted by a student protest over a remark by university President Francis Lawrence regarding race and test scores.
Conference commissioner Linda Bruno said the game will be resumed March 2 at the Palestra in Philadelphia.
