Lake City, Bonners Advance

Idaho state tourney

Lake City and Bonners Ferry advanced to the second round of the Idaho girls basketball tournaments with wins in their respective divisions Thursday night, while Lakeside and Moscow lost and fell into contention.

Six-foot senior post Melissa Dodge scored 18 points to lead Lake City - which includes seven players from 1994 champion Coeur d’Alene - past Highland 57-41 at Albertson College in the A-1 tournament at Caldwell.

At Meridian, Bonners Ferry mauled the Kuna Kavemen 49-22 in hopes of keeping the State A-2 crown in the Intermountain league.

The Badgers used a fullcourt press and effective transition game to take an 11-0 lead they never relinquished.

Earlier in the day, threetime defending champion Moscow fell to Shelley 42-41.

In Boise, juniors Mindi Barton and Treva Wagner led a balanced attack with eight points each as Cambridge edged Lakeside 31-30 in the A-4 tourney.
