Nomo Hot Prospect
Japanese pitcher Hideo Nomo, reportedly being pursued by at least six major-league teams, appears close to an agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Daily News of Los Angeles quoted one source as saying an agreement was reached Thursday, with Nomo agreeing to a minor-league contract that included a $2 million bonus.
But, the newspaper said, another source close to the negotiations called that report “premature.”
According to the Daily News, the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies are also pursuing Nomo, a 26-year-old right-hander who led Japan’s Pacific League in wins and strikeouts four of the last five seasons.
