Jim Slavin Sr. of Spokane successfully defended his U.S. Handball Association Masters Doubles championship last weekend in Charlotte, N.C.

With Bob Nedd of San Francisco, Slavin scored a three-set win over Joe Masterandrea (Portland) and Murray Marcus (Boco Raton, Fla.)

Two weeks earlier, the 72-year-old Slavin won the Diamond division (70 and over) singles at the Peachtree Open in Atlanta, beating eight-time national champ Tom Ciasula of Trenton, N.J., 21-17, 21-15.
