The Forecast

The National Weather Service reported wind gusts of up to 44 mph Sunday at Spokane International Airport, but predicted that northeast winds would diminish this morning.

The high temperature is expected to reach 23 degrees today after an overnight low of 5 degrees. There’s a 50 percent chance of blowing and drifting snow in the morning, followed by partial clearing this afternoon.

A winter weather advisory was in effect Sunday because of the wind and the cold. The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of 40 and a low of 26.

A 40 mph wind, combined with a termperature of 5 degrees, can have the same chilling effect as a temperature of 45-below, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
