Ducks Rout Short-Handed Huskies

Orlando Williams scored 20 points and Jeff Potter 16 Thursday night as 19th-ranked Oregon rolled to its second straight home-court blowout with a 88-63 victory over Washington in Eugene, Ore.

The Ducks (7-4 Pac-10, 15-5 overall) never trailed in beating the shorthanded Huskies for the fifth straight time.

Oregon led by as many as 21 in the first half. Washington (2-10, 6-14) scored the first five points of the second half to slice the lead to 11, but didn’t get closer.

Mark Sanford, a 6-foot-8 freshman, scored a career-high 27 for Washington, 19 in the second half. Jamie Booker added 14 for the Huskies.

The Huskies, losers of 12 straight road games dating back to last season, shot just 32 percent from the field and committed 21 turnovers. Washington did manage a 49-37 rebounding advantage.

In Los Angeles, Charles O’Bannon scored 23 points and Tyus Edney hit 5 of 6 free throws in overtime as the Bruins (10-2, 17-2) held off the Sun Devils (8-4, 18-6).

Trailing 66-63, O’Bannon completed a three-point play with 52 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

Edney, who was scoreless in the second half, tossed up a corner jumper that bounced off the rim as regulation expired. The Bruins outscored the Sun Devils 16-9 in the extra 5 minutes, hitting 11 of 12 free throws.

Damon Stoudamire, the Wildcats’ leading scorer this season, was held to 11.
