Peringer, Brandt Lift Nighthawks To Win

Southeast B

The one-two punch of Brandi Peringer and Heather Brandt led TekoaOakesdale to a 60-36 victory over DeSales and gave Whitman County teams three wins in four games against the Blue Mountain League in the first round of the Southeast B district tournament Friday night.

T-O, the Whitman third-seed, faces top-seeded league rival St. John-Endciott tonight at 7:30 in the second round. The Eagles cruised past Dayton 67-40.

Garfield-Palouse, the No. 2 Whitman seed, also advanced, beating Asotin 54-45, and plays Pomeroy, the No. 1 Blue Mountain team, in the 1:30 game at Walla Walla Community College.

Pomeroy turned back Waitsburg 49-24.

Waitsburg plays Asotin at noon and Dayton meets rival DeSales at 6 p.m.

Two teams advance to the state tournament in Spokane the first four days of March.

The SE-B boys tournament starts Monday at Washington State University.

The Pirates (16-5), top-seeded from the Blue Mountain, overcame a slow start to whip the Cardinals (11-12).

Pomeroy trailed 9-6 after one quarter, but led 20-14 at the half and pulled away.

Michelle Kennedy scored 10 of her 20 points in the second quarter, and Nikkie Brown had all seven of her points in the third as the Vikings (14-7) turned back the Panthers (13-8).

With an 11-point lead, the Vikings were 8 for 8 from the line in the fourth quarter to hold off Asotin.

Andee Schmick scored 10 of her 23 points in the first quarter and the fourth-ranked St. JohnEndicott Eagles (20-2) were never challenged in rolling past the Bulldogs (8-15).

The Eagles led 33-15 at halftime and coasted to the finish with a 17-4 advantage in the fourth quarter as six different players scored.
