Evangelical Christians are still persecuted in Russia and the former Soviet states, according to testimony before Congress last year.

New Jersey Rep. Christopher Smith introduced two Russian speakers who testified of economic discrimination, as well as beatings and murders of evangelicals in several republics.

“Although state-sponsored atheism and religious repression has ended, many religious minorities still find themselves at a disadvantage,” Smith said.
