Starting Projects
Parents who organized foreign language classes at Jefferson and Wilson elementary schools offer these tips for getting a project started at your child’s school.
Network with other parents. Ask what they think of your idea and if they’d like to help.
Talk to the principal. Stress that you don’t want to add to his or her burdens. Your goal is to work in partnership with the school to enrich children’s lives.
Conduct a parent survey. If there isn’t wide interest in your project, it’s best to know early on.
Talk to teachers. Make sure the school staff is on your side.
Be willing to adjust. As the project gets started, monitor how well it’s going and refine the original plan if problems come up.
