Two Spokane Teens Hurt When Pickup Truck Crashes
Two Spokane teenagers were injured when one lost control of his pickup and skidded off a road near Rockford on Saturday night.
One of the boys, a passenger, suffered internal injuries and was in serious condition at Valley Hospital and Medical Center, said Washington State Patrol Sgt. Rich Wiley. The driver suffered cuts and bruises and was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center, Wiley said. A third boy was not injured.
None of the boys wore a seat belt. All are 17-yearsold and from Spokane. Wiley would not release their names or addresses.
The boys might have been drinking, Wiley said. Possible charges of vehicular assault are pending against the driver, he added. One witness estimated the pickup’s speed at 60 mph in a 35 mph zone, Wiley said.
The boys were headed south on Campbell Road when the driver lost control near the intersection with Elder Road. The pickup rolled across the northbound lane and hit a power pole in a field, knocking out electricity along a two-mile stretch of road for about 90 minutes, Wiley said.
Crews from Inland Power and Light repaired the damaged pole.
