Campus Hit By Measles Bellingham
Three musical performances and a play have been canceled because of a measles outbreak at Western Washington University. Students must be immunized to attend classes after Friday.
Statements issued Monday by the school and the Whatcom County Public Health Department also said the number of confirmed measles cases among students had grown to seven.
After the first three cases were diagnosed last week, health and school officials directed that all 10,598 students, as well as staff born since Jan. 1, 1957, be inoculated against measles.
After Thursday, the last day inoculations are being offered at the Viking Union Lounge, students may be asked to present a measles clearance card to attend classes, county health officer Frank James said.
