Eagle Gets Another Chance

From Staff And Wire Reports

A bald eagle got a second chance at freedom after a short career as beggar and thief.

When the young female fell from a nest near Shasta Lake in Northern California in June, it was taken to a rehabilitation center in Ventura, Calif.

After the bird matured, it was fitted with a satellite tracking collar and traveled up the coast to northwestern Oregon, where it began begging and stealing fish from boats.

The bird was captured in November and taken to a rehabilitation center to be broken of those bad habits.

On Sunday, it was time to strike out alone again, but not before just one one more nip. Well, two more.

The bird bit a handler, then made life a little tougher for a crew from the Discovery Channel by sailing out of sight too fast to be captured on camera.

Presumably the bird is off in search of company. There are hundreds of bald eagles near Klamath Lake.
