The Hot Seat Our Weekly Look At Who’s In Trouble

We wuz robbed!

City taxpayers paid Bill Mathis $7,000 to teach City Council members to treat each other like human beings. It hasn’t worked. Even though Chris Anderson was right to raise questions about Dennis Hession’s involvement in the Pacific Science Center, Anderson’s civic-savage approach drew more attention to himself than to the issue. He was about to blow a fuse, so Jack Geraghty called a 15-minute timeout to get things back under control. Anderson, still steaming after the meeting, called the actions of his council playmates “a chicken-hearted disgrace.” Somebody get that group guru from California on the phone. We want our money back.

Take the high road, Junior

Ken Griffey Jr. and a few of his baseball buddies went to the state capitol this week to help some lobbyists grease a bill that would prohibit replacement players from setting foot in the Kingdome. Union lobbyist Randy Parr said vendors and other service workers would be hurt if teams are made up of replacement players. “People are not going to attend these replacement games, so we’ll have no one to sell to,” Parr whined. Hmmm. He wants legislation to ban players no one will come to see? Don’t do their dirty work, Junior, play above it.

The end of an era

Remember the good old days when you could give the finger to drivers who hacked you off? Mouth a few a dirty words, shoot ‘em the bird and you’re on your way. Feeling pretty good about yourself, too. No more. Ask Clyde Crow of Moses Lake. He was cruising in Grant County this week when somebody gave him the bird. Crow shot the finger back at the guy, and the guy shot back with a gun. Crow underwent surgery at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake for his injuries.
