Grants Will Help Keep Meals Rolling
Spokane Valley Meals on Wheels recently received three grants totaling $4,900.
The Leuthold Foundation gave $3,000 toward general operational needs, according to Ruth Fearn, Valley Meals on Wheels executive director.
The David and Dorothy Pierce Trust, administered by Washington Trust Bank, granted $900 for a pilot project that provides shelf-stable meals for breakfasts, sick days and emergencies.
The Boeing Good Neighbor Fund donated $1,000 toward meal costs.
Each week, Valley Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver more than 1,000 hot meals to homebound seniors and handicapped people in the Spokane Valley.
Adult classes set to start
Registration starts today for more than 145 adult night classes offered through the Community Colleges of Spokane.
Valley residents can sign up for courses and one-night workshops in arts and crafts, basic education, business, cooking, exercise and more. The classes are offered in conjunction with the Central, East and West Valley school districts.
Residents can register at the center court of University City Shopping Center today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

SCOPE Millwood meeting planned
A community meeting is set for Thursday to talk about the future opening of the SCOPE (Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort) Millwood substation.
Residents of Millwood and the surrounding area are invited to the town hall, E9103 Frederick, at 7 p.m. to discuss the mid-February opening and to talk about recruiting volunteers, said chairman Bill Langdon.
