Ccs Wins Nwaacc Opener

The Community Colleges of Spokane outrebounded Wenatchee Valley Community College 31-21 and had nine steals to top the Knights, 74-71, in the NWAACC men’s basketball opener for the Sasquatch on Saturday at the Johnson Sports Center.

Chad Goldsmit had nine rebounds and six assists and Kris Hampton had 11 points and seven rebounds, three of them offensive, to lead the Sasquatch on the boards.

CCS shot 50 percent from the field and distributed the ball well, handing out 19 assists. The Sasquatch recorded nine steals to offset their 19 turnovers.

Spokane’s Dean Smith hit 11 of 12 shots from the floor and was 3 of 4 from the foul line to finish with a game-high 25 points. He also had six rebounds as the Sasquatch improved to 1-0 in the conference and 4-9 overall.
