Gorillas Gain Revenge By Thumping Eagles

Joy Emery scored Davenport’s first eight points and was five for five from the field in the first half as the Gorillas (11-1) defeated St. John-Endicott (10-2), 66-49, in a non-league game Tuesday night at Davenport.

The fifth-ranked Gorillas avenged their only loss of the season, a 74-60 decision to the fourth-ranked Eagles, behind Jennifer Stinson’s seven assists, 10 rebounds and 24 points.

Davenport made 16 of 29 shots from the field in the first half, while St. John-Endicott was seven of 29.

The Gorillas also outrebounded the Eagles 39-25.

Summer Wood rebounded and put in her own missed free throw with 30 seconds remaining in overtime to give the visiting Cougars (4-2, 5-3) a win against the Grizzlies (4-3, 7-4)

Chewelah trailed 43-33 at the start of the fourth quarter, but the Cougars chipped away at Newport’s lead and Jenny McGuire sank a 5-foot bank shot with 5 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
