Flooded Creek Sweeps Three Teenagers Away
One teenager was killed and two others were missing Saturday after the three were swept away by a flooded creek.
The floods, caused by up to 5 inches of rain in western North Carolina, also forced dozens of people to flee their homes. Roads were closed in several counties.
The body of the teenager was recovered just before dark along Wilson Creek in Caldwell County, where the three were last seen, authorities said.
Witnesses said the teenagers were walking on a foot bridge over the creek when they were swept away, said Caldwell County emergency management director Dale Coffey.
