Boise Cascade Sees First Quarter Profit

Compiled From Wire Services

Boise Cascade Corp. expects to post the company’s first quarterly profit in four years, its chief executive, George J. Harad, said Monday.

Following the projection, the company’s stock rose nearly 5 percent.

The big forest-products company cited continued strength in its building-products sector, but the main reason for the turnaround is a powerful rebound in the formerly moribund pulp and paper markets.

For the final three months of 1994, Harad projected net income of $24 million to $27 million, or 28 to 33 cents a share. In the same period of 1993, Boise Cascade reported a loss of $23.7 million, or 98 cents a share.

For the year, Harad said, Boise Cascade will still have a loss of $60 million to $65 million.
