Police Department Offers Academy Class For Spring
The Spokane Police Department has begun recruiting candidates for a spring academy class.
One of four informational sessions for those interested in becoming a city police officer will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at East Central Community Center.
Top administrators with the department will make presentations on law enforcement as a career, the required three-month training session and the application process.
Police trainees are paid $26,058 a year. Each applicant must:
Be at least 20 years old at the time of application and 21 at the time of appointment.
Have completed 45 quarter hours or 30 semester credit hours of course work from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of at least 2.0.
Have completed at least five quarter hours or three semester credit hours of college-level English.
Be within normal weight range for height with vision correctable to 20/20 to 20/30.
Pass an in-depth criminal, civil and personal background check.
Interested applicants are encouraged to attend one of the informational sessions. Future sessions will be held Jan. 25 at the West Central Community Center, Jan. 31 at the Northeast Community Center and Feb. 9 at City Hall. All sessions begin at 7 p.m. Applications will be accepted beginning March 13.
