At a glance

Chiefs roll into Central Alberta with everybody contributing. It was Randy Favaro with the game-winner and David Lemanowicz with the shutout in goal Wednesday night in Swift Current, where the Chiefs won for the first time since 1986. The shutout was the Chiefs’ first since a 5-0 win at Victoria on March 12, 1993. Tonight’s opponent is young and banged-up. Rebels won’t have veteran center Dean Tiltgen (separated shoulder), and with five 16-year-olds on the roster they’re a year or two away from contending. Standing out among the young players are Jesse Wallin, a stay-at-home defenseman, and Aaron Asham, a goal-scoring threat. They represent the hope for the future of this 3-year-old franchise that is among the leading draws in the WHL. Ex-Seattle Thunderbirds coach Pete Anholt is in charge of the rebuilding. Veteran Curtis Cardinal is on a seven-game scoring streak.
