Dwight Gooden, suspended from major-league baseball for this season, has met with Marvin Goldklang, a part-owner of the St. Paul Saints of the independent Northern League, about possibly playing for the team.Gooden was suspended from the major leagues in November for failing drug tests mandated after his drug-related 60-day suspension imposed June 28.

Former Cincinnati Bengals running back Ickey Woods pleaded innocent to charges of carrying a concealed weapon and drug abuse.

Woods was arrested Thursday when police stopped him for allegedly speeding on Interstate 75 in suburban Sharonville. Police reportedly found a handgun and the butt of a marijuana cigarette in Woods’ car.

A lawyer for former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson argued in federal appeals court that Tyson failed to receive a fair trial, which resulted in his rape conviction.

The trial judge, a woman whose previous job was prosecuting sex crimes, was selected for the Tyson trial by the prosecution, giving the state a clear advantage, lawyer Alan Dershowitz told the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Tyson is scheduled for release in May from the Indiana Youth Center near Plainfield.

Steve McNair, after passing for 4,863 yards and 44 touchdowns and rushing for 936 yards and nine more TDs at NCAA Division I-AA Alcorn State, will play against Division I-A players for the first time in the Senior Bowl today in Mobile, Ala. He will play on the South team.
