Tennessee Gets New Governor
Republican Don Sundquist was inaugurated as Tennessee’s 47th governor Saturday, promising progress without partisanship.
“We are Tennesseans coming together. We are a pioneering people ready to explore the future together and build a better world for ourselves and our people,” the former congressman told about 2,000 people in front of the War Memorial Building.
“My mission will be to break down the barriers that separate Tennesseans from one another and to raise the standard of living for all of our people.”
Sundquist succeeds Democrat Ned McWherter, limited to two terms by the state constitution.
