Man Sentenced For Robbery

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Hayden Lake, Idaho, man was sentenced to three to 17 years in prison Monday in the beating and robbery of two handicapped men, but he could get out in 180 days.

First District Judge Craig Kosonen retained jurisdiction, meaning Chad Emmett, 22, will go to the boot-camp prison program at Cottonwood, Idaho, for 180 days. Authorities then will decide whether he must serve his full sentence.

Emmett, together with two other men, stopped at the home of two Kellogg-area men early on Oct. 24, pretending to have car trouble. Mike Browning and David Bishop, both 24, let the visitors in the house. They then were badly beaten, knocked unconscious and robbed.

Browning is hearing-impaired. Bishop is a slow learner with memory problems and a speech impediment.

Emmett and a friend, Brent Adkinson, 24, of Post Falls, agreed in November to plead guilty to robbery if the state would drop charges of aggravated assault.

Matthew Levy, 25, of Coeur d’Alene, is being held in Kootenai County on other outstanding warrants.
