Kellogg, St. Maries Win A-2 Openers
Seeding held firm as the Idaho A-2 District I-II girls high school basketball tournament opened Monday night in Post Falls.
No. 3 seed Kellogg and No. 4 St. Maries dispatched lower-seeded opponents to move into Wednesday night’s second round.
Kellogg (13-8) dropped No. 6 Priest River 47-23 and will face No. 2 seeded Bonners Ferry (14-6) at 6:15 p.m. St. Maries (9-12) whipped No. 5 Lakeland 63-35 for a date against No. 1 Moscow (13-7) at 8 when the doubleelimination portion of the tournament begins.
Priest River finishes 5-16, Lakeland 3-15.
Kellogg used a tight man-to-man defense to limit Priest River to 11 first-half points, forcing turnovers that led to transition baskets. When Priest River pressed, Kellogg was able to break the press.
Laura Rauenhorst led Kellogg with 14 points.

Katie Elwood came up big with 14 points, 15 rebounds and five steals as fifth-seeded Mullan ousted No. 4 Kootenai 47-41 on the losing Warriors’ home court in Harrison.
The win earned the Tigers (4-13) a date with top-seeded Lakeside (10-10) at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeland when the double-elimination portion of the tournament begins.
No. 2 Clark Fork (10-10) meets No. 3 Falls Christian Academy (6-12) at 8.
Kootenai finishes 6-11.
Maria Hegbloom had 18 points Samantha Reed 16 rebounds for Mullan.
