Minutemen Continue Winning
Derek Kellogg hit two 3-pointers in a 10-0 run early in the second half as No. 1 Massachusetts extended the nation’s longest men’s college basketball winning streak to 15 games with a 79-62 win over St. Bonaventure on Monday night at Amherst, Mass.
With the Minutemen ahead 33-31, Kellogg’s 3-pointer began the surge with 16:48 left in the game. He ended it with another 3-pointer, making the score 43-31 with 15:14 to go.
Massachusetts led by at least nine points the rest of the way. The Minutemen (8-0 Atlantic 10, 16-1 overall) were led by Lou Roe’s 21 points. Kellogg and Mike Williams each added 15.
St. Bonaventure (3-4, 11-8) was paced by David Vanterpool with 21 and Shandue McNeill with 12.
UMass increased the nation’s longest oncampus winning streak to 40 games and set a school record with 15 consecutive victories in one season.
(10) Syracuse 76, (13) Georgetown 75
At Landover, Md., Lawrence Moten scored 19 points and John Wallace added 17 points and nine rebounds as the Orangemen (9-1 Big East, 16-2) took advantage of horrible free-throw shooting by the Hoyas (7-3, 14-4) for a road win.
Syracuse was just the opposite at the foul line, going 18 for 24 compared to the 9-for26 effort of the Hoyas.
Syracuse evened the series between the schools at 28-28 and gave coach Jim Boeheim his 450th victory against 142 losses.
The Orangemen took the lead for good at 68-67 on a rebound basket by Wallace with 2:15 left to play. It was the first of three big rebounds for the 6-foot-8 junior forward.

At Ames, Iowa, the Tigers (4-2 Big Eight, 15-3) contained the Cyclones’ (3-2, 17-3) Loren Meyer in the second half and got key 3-point baskets from Jason Sutherland and Kendrick Moore in the win.
The shots by Sutherland and Kendrick capped a 14-2 run that gave Missouri an eight-point lead and control of the game with 7 minutes left.
Fred Hoiberg made a school-record eight 3-pointers and scored 29 points, but he couldn’t keep Iowa State from losing at home for the first time this season.
