Pirates Look For Help

The deadline for the city to sell the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team has passed without a sale.

Now it is the owners’ turn to do what the city was unable to do in six months: find a buyer who will meet their terms and keep the team in Pittsburgh.

Cable televison owner John Rigas’ deadline to buy the Pirates was midnight Sunday. Now the owners are free to sell the Pirates to anyone, including an investor who can move the team.

At Country Club Hills, Mo., former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder David Green was charged with involuntary manslaughter after a suspected drunken driving accident. Green is being held on $200,000 bond and remains under police guard at a hospital, where he was in stable condition with minor injuries. xxxx
