Police Investigate Jazz Singer’s Death
Phyllis Hyman, a jazz singer who starred in the Broadway musical “Sophisticated Ladies,” died Friday at age 45.
She died at Roosevelt Hospital about two hours after an assistant found her unconscious in her apartment.
Police were investigating her death as a possible suicide, said Detective Dwight Cunningham, a police spokesman.
The Philadelphia-born singer had been scheduled to appear Friday at the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
