Daredevil Hurt In Portland Jump
A daredevil performer suffered serious injuries when he crashed while attempting to jump his HarleyDavidson over 13 cars at Portland Speedway.
Bubba Blackwell, 28, was in serious but stable condition at Legacy Emanuel Hospital Sunday, one day after the accident. Blackwell suffered a broken collar bone, two broken ribs, a broken scapula and a punctured lung.
Blackwell had just cleared the last car when his motorcycle hit the top of the landing ramp as a crowd of about 750 looked on, speedway spokeswoman Suzy Owen said.
“It took your breath away. It was scary,” Owen said. “The front wheel hit the ramp. He made the jump, but where he landed was just a little bit short. He went over the top of the bike, and the bike landed on him and bounced off.”
The daredevil from Bon Secour, Ala., is expected to remain hospitalized for about three more days. He’ll miss a scheduled July 4th appearance in Butte, Mont.
