Fans Get Soaked; Indians Get Drubbed
Several thousand Spokane Indians fans scrambled for cover at Seafirst Stadium during two rain delays Sunday.
The first soaking came minutes before the national anthem, said Andy Billig, general manager.
Crews fixed up the field in time for a second downpour. After that, the field had to be completely worked over, said announcer Jay Stewart.
The 3:05 p.m. game against Southern Oregon was delayed by two hours and 17 minutes.
By the time the opening pitch was thrown about half of the 2,700 fans had left.
None of those who left got refunds or exchanges, because the game wasn’t rained out, just delayed.
The Indians lost, 8-5.
