Lebanon Guerrilla Bases Shelled By Israel
After a gunfight that killed one Lebanese guerrilla and wounded two others, Israeli gunners shelled suspected guerrilla bases in south Lebanon overnight, police reported Wednesday.
Officials said a Lebanese civilian was wounded in the shelling of Iqlim al-Tuffah by Israeli artillery and tanks.
Iqlim al-Tuffah is the region where the Iranian-backed Shiite Muslim Hezbollah has its main guerrilla bases. Hezbollah opposes peace with Israel, and to undermine peacemaking, it has stepped up its attacks on Israeli troops.
The Amal militia, a more moderate Shiite movement backed by Syria, said that one of its guerrillas was killed and two were wounded in a gunbattle with Israeli infantry Tuesday night.
