Lakeside Driving To Drag Reardan Into Special Lesson In Driver’s Ed
The two-year run of Reardan as Spokane Raceway Park’s High School Drag Racing Series champion would appear to be coming to an end as the season reaches it’s halfway point tonight.
Time trials begin at 5:30 at SRP.
Lakeside High, the new school in Nine Mile, Wash., that put its football team in the state playoffs after just three years of existence, has built a huge lead in the points standings after just two events. Lakeside leads second-place Skills Center, a former two-time champion, by a 73-36 margin. St. Maries (35), Shadle Park (28) and Reardan (26) close out the top five.
The High School Drag Racing Series consists of five races and finishes with events on August 25th and September 17th.
Regular bracket drag racing takes place on Saturday, starting at 4:30 p.m.
Also at SRP this weekend, the stock cars run their Mid-Season Championships. John McCroskey (Street Stocks), Jim Darby (Fever Fours) and Mark Wakefield (Hobby Stocks) hold comfortable leads in their respective classes. The top five drivers in the Compacts - Allen Swain, Eldon Zacek, Ken Reiber, Larry Mikkelsen and Tony Berg - are locked in a tight battle, with double points on the line.
Oval track time trials begin at 5:30.
SRP hopping
The busy, post-holiday schedule at Stateline Speedway continues this weekend with the yearly visit from the Canadian Old-Timers tonight and Saturday. The event lasted one day in past years.

Also on the schedule tonight are the Street Stocks, Hobby Cars and CROW Open Wheel modifieds. Time trials begin at 6:30.
The big weekend of open-wheel racing continues Saturday, when the Northwest Modifieds return to the track - and to action - after nearly a month off. Greg Ochs, the only twotime winner this season in the Northwest Modified Series, takes the series points lead and tries to make it two wins in a row in The River City Body Mid-Season Championships. A 75 lap feature race caps off the night.
Pit stops
The Northwest Late Model Racing Association visits Montana this weekend with two races, one a regularly scheduled race at Kalispell, and one a rescheduled event of a rainedout race at Mission Speedway in Pablo. … The NASCAR Northwest Tour visits South Sound Speedway in Tenino, Wash., this Saturday night. Spokane’s Rick Schultz is charging up the points ladder, currently in seventh place, and looks for his first series win. … The NHRA Division Six drag racing series visits Woodburn, Ore., this weekend. … Area dirt track racers have the week off at Republic and Northport Speedways. Republic resumes next Saturday with the Rick Martin Memorial, featuring sprint cars. Northport has three weeks off before resuming July 22 with the Mission Distributors “Dirt Cup.”
