These Quilts Don’t Deserve To Be Bedridden

Quilts aren’t just for beds. Beautifully handcrafted quilts deserve a space on a wall where, like any piece of art, the design and craftsmanship can be appreciated.

For a look at some stunning quilts, head for Coeur d’Alene where the work of Genesee, Idaho, quilter Karen Schoepflin Hagen will be on display starting Monday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Fellowship Hall, 111 Locust Ave.

Hagen exhibits her quilts nationally. The display is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. through July 23 every day except Saturdays. Admission is $2.

Some lucky winner: Those holding the 4,000 tickets for the North Idaho College Foundation Really Big Raffle will find out who wins the $200,000 house tonight at 7. The drawing for the Hayden Lake home is at 7 p.m. at the NIC Fort Sherman Park. The raffle’s sold out, but you can still go watch the lucky winner’s reaction.

Going to class: Sometimes all it takes is a brief demonstration to get you started with a simple home repair job. Many home improvement stores offer workshops and Ziggy’s is no exception.

The lineup of classes at the Northpointe location, 620 E. Holland, continues tonight at 6 with a 1-hour class on applying vinyl siding.

Saturday, learn how to build a deck from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and how to install ceramic tile, 2-4 p.m.

Other classes are: Plumbing A to Z, July 14, 6-8 p.m. and July 15, 10 a.m.-noon; building a water feature, July 15, 2-3 p.m.; installing carpet, July 21, 6-7:30 p.m.; finishing a basement, July 22, 10 a.m.-noon; installing a drip system, July 22, 2-3 p.m.; hanging and taping drywall, July 28, 6-8:30 p.m. and July 29, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; texturing walls, July 29, 2-3 p.m. and installing underground sprinklers, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. All of the classes are free.
