Woman’s Packages Empty County Offices

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane’s juvenile court building and county clerk’s office were briefly evacuated Friday after a woman left suspicious packages in both areas.

Fearing that the packages might contain explosives, workers summoned the city-county Explosive Disposal Unit, said Sheriff’s Lt. David Wiyrick. No explosives were found.

Juvenile court officials became concerned after the woman left a package in the reception area of the building, then left shortly after noon.

The non-detention area of the juvenile court building was evacuated for several minutes as authorities inspected the packages, Wiyrick said.

Shortly afterward, a woman with a similar description left two packages behind at the county clerk’s office on the third floor of the Spokane County Courthouse.

That office was evacuated as authorities checked the packages, which contained magazines.

Wiyrick said deputies do want to question the woman described as in her late 40s, wearing a pink blouse, blue jeans and heavy gloves.
