British Columbia Forests Minister Andrew Petter has called for tough new regulations for privately owned forests after a provincial study revealed massive impacts to the San Juan River from clear-cut logging.”

The report found shocking logging practices have denuded hillsides, caused more than 428 landslides since the 1950s and ruined salmon habitat through siltation and debris.

Environment Minister Elizabeth Cull said companies logging in the San Juan watershed have agreed to discuss a plan to restore the land.
