Camp Fire, Girl Scouts Present Several Awards
The Camp Fire Inland Empire Council and the Girl Scouts Inland Empire Council, Inc., recently presented several awards to members and adult volunteers.
Five Camp Fire girls completed the needed requirements to earn the Wohelo Medallion, the highest award a Camp Fire member can receive. The self-planned, individualized project of personal development requires three to four years to complete and is intended to be the culmination of the Camp Fire experience.
Those receiving the award are: Jamie Bastine and Heidi Peterson, June graduates of Central Valley High School; Sarah Bergstrom, a graduate of Sprague (Wash.) High School; Michelle Rasmussen, a graduate of Lakeland High School; and Jennifer Holms, a student at Spokane Falls Community College.
At the Girls and Boys Scouting council’s 22nd-annual National Art Competition, blue ribbons were awarded to Megan Babich kindergarten to second; Ashley Stranberg, for grades three to five; and June Moore for grades six to 12.
Honorable mention certificates were received by: Kristin Baker, Lizzy Ellison, Alicia Faires, Christjana Goodwin, John Hekimian, Jessica Knox, Brook Landers, Lacy Lisher, Leann Muller, Krisi Packer, Rebekah Stranberg, Tonya Smith, Kaylin Tuesch and Cheryl Zinn.
The Girl Scouts Inland Empire Council presented its Gold Award, its highest achievement, to:
Michelle Edmonds, member of Troop 82. She organized a Drug Disposal Day at Albertson’s in the Wandermere Mall for families to drop off unused and expired medications and create a safer home environment for children.
Harmony Dusek, a member of Troop 437, served as co-chair of a committee to establish a police substation in the NevadaLidgerwood Neighborhood.
Natalie Matzger, a senior Girl Scout in Pullman, was selected to attend Wider Opportunity, a national conference which brings Girl Scouts together from around America to experience special adventures. She attended “Aquatic Wonders of the Deep South” in Mobile, Ala.
Kathryn Kafentzis, an eighth grade student at Chase Middle School, has received the Girl Scout Silver Award. For her award project, Kafentzis, a member of Cadette Girl Scout Troop 181, organized a clothing drive to benefit Crosswalk, a homeless teen center.
Donna Greenough of Worley, Idaho, received the Thanks Badge II at the adult recognition dinner of the Girl Scouts council.
Dawn Pilburn, Post Falls, and Greenough both earned the Angel in Green Award for outstanding service.
In the Shadows Awards were presented to Joseph and Terry Berge Hayden Lake, Idaho; Michelle Christian, Joseph Warren, and Sandy Zimmerman, Coeur d’Alene; and Sheila and Theodore Pulver, of Post Falls. The award recognizes those who work behind the scenes to make it possible for others to volunteer in Girl Scouting.
