Diabetic Dad Throws Girl In Lake

Compiled From Wire Services

A 20-month-old girl died Sunday, a day after her father threw her in a lake while suffering from diabetes-related hypoglycemia, authorities said.

Joseph Holt, 22, later told deputies, “I don’t know why I did it,” Orange County sheriff’s officials said. He was taken to a hospital for psychiatric examination.

Doctors determined Holt is a severe diabetic whose blood-sugar levels were dangerously low, said sheriff’s spokesman Carlos Espinosa. Hypoglycemia can cause depression, confusion and dementia.

“His mind-set at the time … was zero,” Espinosa said. “He had virtually no thought process.”
