Kathryn Walley Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Kathryn M. Walley, 50, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Riverview section of Forest Cemetery. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walley, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday at Kootenai Medical Center, Coeur d’Alene.

She was a lifetime resident of the Coeur d’Alene area and married Gale B. Walley in 1970.

Mrs. Walley was a secretary for her husband’s moving business, Local Moving, which has operated in the Northwest for the last 15 years.

She was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, sewing and cross stitch.

She was proceeded in death by a son, Kevin Haig, in 1981.

Survivors include her husband, at the home; one daughter, Karen Haig-Chrisman of Coeur d’Alene; her mother, Jean Martin of Yuba City, Calif.; and two brothers, Jim Boman of Spokane and Nick Bower of Portland.

Lorraine Sponholz Post Falls

Memorial service for Lorraine Sponholz, 75, will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Post Falls Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sponholz died Friday at Kootenai Medical Center’s extended care facility.

She was born and raised in Wisconsin and married Harold Sponholz in Milwaukee in 1941. They moved to southern Idaho in 1981 and settled in Post Falls in 1991.

She was a Jehovah’s Witness.

Survivors include her husband, at the home; one son, Robert Sponholz of Coeur d’Alene; two brothers, William Nordahl Jr. of Milwaukee and Kenneth Nordahl of Reedsburg, Wisc.; one sister, Janet Wysinski of Wisconsin; two grandsons and two granddaughters.

Elizabeth Coughlin Spokane

Memorial Service for Elizabeth C. Coughlin, 87, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Coughlin, who died Sunday, was born in Lind, Wash.

She had lived in Spokane for 40 years and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Dan Coughlin, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one brother, Nicholas Seivers, of Lind.

Andrew Kannegaard Kellogg

Service for Andrew G. Kannegaard, 64, will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Kellogg. Burial will follow at Nine Mile Cemetery in Wallace. Shoshone Funeral Service, Kellogg, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kannegaard, who was born in Sunset, Idaho, died Friday in Spokane.

He was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a hard rock miner and served as superintendent of underground operations for the Sunshine Mining Company.

He married Jacqulene Lasher in Wallace, in 1950.

Survivors include his wife, at the home; five sons, Mathew and Kenneth of Arizona, James of Indonesia, and John and Mark of Spokane; two daughters Killene Rogers of Auburn, Wash., and Trisha Kannegaard-Miles of Coeur d’Alene; three brothers, Raymond of Wallace, LeRoy of Medical Lake and Danny of Utah; sister, Laura Slaughter of Oregon; and 17 grandchildren.

Russell O’Toole Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Russell Patrick O’Toole, 75, is pending.

Mr. O’Toole, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Wednesday at home.

He spent his lifetime in the area and was a carpenter for home construction and remodeling jobs.

He married Fern Skogland in St. Maries in 1963.

Mr. O’Toole was a member of the Catholic Church and the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Club.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers, Tom, Jim and Lawrence.

Survivors include his wife in St. Maries; three sisters, Verna Staeheli and Alice Miles of Coeur d’Alene, and Viola Lumper of Galdstone, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.

William ‘Ray’ Rhoadarmer Spokane

Memorial service for William “Ray” Rhoadarmer, 87, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Valley Fourth Memorial Church. Private burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rhoadarmer, who was born in Grinnell, Iowa, died Friday.

He came to Spokane in 1948 and worked for Clark Equipment Co., for 28 years. He retired in 1976.

He was a member of Valley Fourth Memorial Church.

His wife, Vernice Rhoadarmer, died in 1987.

He is survived by one son, Edd Rhoadarmer of Moses Lake; one daughter, Carol Toovey of Colbert; one brother, Warren Rhoadarmer and one sister, Irma Sidwell, both of Colorado; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Leon Howley Spokane

Memorial service for Leon Martin Howley, 86, is planned for 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Otis Orchards. Cremation was handled by Cremation Society of Washington.

Mr. Howley, who was born in Lyons Fall, N.Y., died Saturday.

He had worked as a milling machine operator and as a produce manager for a grocery store chain in Syracuse, N.Y. He retired in 1974.

He had lived in Spokane since 1983.

He served in the Army during World War II, and was a member of the Teamsters Union, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His wife, Dora Howley, died in 1938.

He is survived by one stepsister, Helen Small of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one half-brother, Albert Hart of San Francisco; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children or the American Heart Association.

Elizabeth S. Hunter Spokane

Graveside service for Elizabeth S. Hunter, 88, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at LaCrosse (Wash.) Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hunter, who died Saturday, was born in LaCrosse, Wash.

She graduated from high school in LaCrosse and Cheney Normal School.

She worked for Old National Bank in Colfax.

She and her husband, Dewey Hunter, moved to San Francisco. He died in 1969 and she then moved to Spokane.

She was a member of St. John’s Cathedral, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Washington Wheat Growers Association.

She is survived by one stepson Wilmont Hunter of California; one stepgrandchild and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Karen Ullrich Spokane

Graveside service for Karen S. Ullrich, 55, will be at 3 p.m. today at Saltese Cemetery in Greenacres. Memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ullrich, who died Friday, was born in Spokane and grew up in Lewiston, where she graduated from high school.

She and her husband, Glenn, moved to Spokane in 1963, from California.

Mrs. Ullrich was a music teacher.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was an organist and pianist.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Brian, Todd, and Joshua Ullrich; one daughter, Sarah Ullrich; her parents, Orville and Lillian Sheneman of Lewiston; and one grandchild.

Addline Mays Odessa, Wash.

Memorial services for Addline H. Mays, 86, was held Friday. She was buried at Odessa Cemetery.

Mrs. Mays, who died July 4, was born in Odessa.

A homemaker, she was a member of Odessa Baptist Church, the Women’s Missionary Society and the Odessa Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Adrian Werner in 1969 and John Mays in 1988.

She is survived by one son, Donald Werner of Milwaukie, Ore.; two daughters, Gloria Kaiser of Clackamas, Ore., and Jean Musgrave of Portland; one stepdaughter, Bonnie Swannack of Lacrosse, Wash.; one stepson, Gene Mays of Lacrosse; two brothers, Dan Roloff of Bremerton and Harold Roloff of Cheney; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jean Tefft Spokane

Service for Jean Morton Tefft, 80, is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Private graveside service will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tefft died Thursday, one day before her birthday. She was born in Ann Arbor, Mich.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and had lived in Spokane for more than 75 years.

She died in Seattle where she had recently moved because of an illness.

Her husband, Wayne Tefft, died in 1990.

She was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

She is survived by one son Richard Tefft of Federal Way, Wash.; two daughters, Nancy Redford of Boise and Jeanne Tarter of Des Moines, Wash.; one brother, William Morton of Albuquerque, N.M.; and four grandchildren.

Joseph Brychell Cheney

Service for Joseph Brychell, 62, will be at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cheney. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brychell, a longtime Cheney resident, died Friday.

He was born in Stevens Point, Wis.

He was a central office superintendent at P.T.I. Communications in Cheney, where he had worked for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lauris Brychell of Cheney; two sons, Joseph Brychell of Kirkland, Wash., and James Brychell of Long Beach, Calif.; one daughter, Jeannette Brychell of Tacoma; three brothers, Bob and Charles Moyer, both of Moses Lake, and Leroy Moyer of Boston; three sisters, Donna King and Mary Maslen, both of Moses Lake, and Betty Rindel of Burien, Wash.

Richard Embler Deer Park

Graveside service for Richard Julian Embler, 81, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Embler, who died Friday, was born in Seattle.

He had worked for Seattle City Light and had lived in Deer Park since 1978.

He served in the Army during World War II.

His wife, Edith Embler, died in 1991.

He is survived by four sons, Lionel, Fred and Keith Embler, all of Deer Park, and James Embler of Elk; three stepchildren, Cheryl Mills of Lodi, Calif., Ruth Chester of Miamisburg, Ohio, and LeRoy Heath of Kettle Falls, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

George Winkelseth Sr. Enumclaw, Wash.

Memorial Mass for former Spokane resident George J. Winkelseth, was held Sunday at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Enumclaw. Oakwood-Hill Funeral Directors in Tacoma is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Winkelseth died Wednesday. He was 84.

He had lived in Spokane for more than 30 years and was in Enumclaw and Federal Way for the past four years.

He worked as an insurance broker, and served in the Air Force for 30 years.

He is survived by one daughter, Janice O’Brien of Tacoma; one son, George Winkelseth Jr., of Gig Harbor, Wash.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ida Gainor Spokane

Funeral Mass for Ida Gainor, 98, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gainor, who died Friday, was born on a homestead in eastern Montana.

She and her husband, Walter, moved to Spokane from North Dakota in 1942. Her husband preceded her in death.

Mrs. Gainor was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Ramona Shearer and Rosemary Simpson, both of Spokane; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Catholic School.

Walter ‘Johnny’ Johnson Spokane

Funeral Mass for Walter F. “Johnny” Johnson, 80, is set for 9 a.m. today at St. Paschal Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson, who died Friday, was born in Spokane and grew up in Montana. He returned to Spokane in 1937 and worked for Northern Pacific Railroad, retiring from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1980.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and the United Transportation Union.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Johnson; one son, Pat Johnson of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Colleen Eccles of Issaquah, Wash., and Marcia Marsh of Spokane; one brother, Ernest Johnson of Omak, Wash.; two sisters, Margaret Chinski of Missoula and Evelyn Miesen of Whitefish, Mont.; and three granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paschal’s School.

Howard E. Oiland Spokane

Memorial service for Howard E. Oiland, 70, is set for 1 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Oiland died Friday.

He graduated from Mead High School and served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

He worked for Washington Water Power Co. for 43 years and retired in 1990.

Mr. Oiland was a longtime resident of Wild Rose Prairie.

He was a member of Deer Park Lodge No. 134 Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite and El Katif Shrine Temple, Legion of Honor and directors staff, the Eagles Lodge No. 3564 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3067.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn Oiland; two sons, Brad Oiland and Bruce Oiland, both of Deer Park; three daughters, Sharleen Widner of Spokane, and Sonya Abbott and Connie Saywers, both of Deer Park; one sister, Norma Haven of Great Falls, Mont.; two brothers, Dean Oiland of Deer Park and Elmo Rossen of Clayton, Wash.; and 16 grandchildren.
