Police Investigate Alleged Child Rape

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 10-year-old girl told police she was raped while sleeping in her bedroom early Saturday morning, according to a Coeur d’Alene Police report.

Although no one has been arrested in the incident, Capt. Carl Bergh said investigators have talked to a 35-year-old man they consider a “person of interest” in the case.

The girl woke up her mother at about 3:10 a.m. Saturday and told her that she had been sexually assaulted, according to the report.

The girl said that someone had come into her room about 15 minutes earlier and raped her.

Bergh said the suspect in the case had been staying at the girl’s home. According to the police report, the man worked late and arrived at the house at about 2:45 a.m.

The man told police he went to bed. He denies sexually assaulting the young girl, Bergh said.

Bergh said the police department is having evidence tested before deciding whether to arrest or charge anyone in the case.
