Tousled Heartthrob Hugh Grant Is Gaining More Exposure

Compiled From Wire Services

Hugh Grant began his “Four Talk Shows and a Sheepish Grin” tour Monday night with an appearance on NBC’s “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”

And Leno wasted no time in asking the question that has apparently titillated the entire industrialized world since Grant was arrested with a Hollywood prostitute on June 27.

“Let me start with question No. 1,” Leno said. “What the hell were you thinking?”

Looking uptight and, indeed, sheepish, Grant replied: “Well it’s not easy. The thing is, people give me tons of ideas on this one. I keep reading new psychological theories and stuff like that - you know, I was under pressure, I was tired or I was lonely or I fell down the stairs when I was a child, or whatever.”

He said he couldn’t “hide behind something like that. I think you know in life pretty much what’s a good thing and what’s a bad thing, and I did a bad thing.”

Grant is scheduled to continue his media tour Wednesday on CNN’s “Larry King Live.” Next stop will be NBC’s “Today Show” on Friday, followed by “Late Show With David Letterman” on July 19.
