Trooper Stops Speedy, Stolen Car
A 26-year-old Spokane man drove 121 mph past a Washington State Patrol trooper Wednesday in a stolen red Corvette with an undersized spare tire.
Gary Noble was arrested for driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license and possession of stolen property.
WSP spokesman Sgt. Chris Powell said troopers spotted the speeding car at 11 a.m. on Interstate 90, about 15 miles west of Ritzville.
A check of the car’s license plates identified it as being stolen earlier that morning in Port Orchard, Powell said.
The Corvette was damaged on its right side, where an undersized spare tire had been put on the rear wheel.
Noble was driving the car with the small tire, Powell said. Recommended speeds for such a tire are 50 mph or less, he said.
“The trooper probably saved his life stopping him,” Powell said. “Going 121 mph with a tire like that - he wouldn’t have gotten much farther.” , DataTimes
