Victim Fights Life Term For Sex Offender

From Staff And Wire Reports

A sex offender was sentenced to life in prison under the “three strikes, you’re out” law, despite a plea for leniency from his victim.

William Greene, 41, was convicted May 31 of indecent liberties and first-degree kidnapping in an attack on his mental-health therapist.

Greene, who appeared to alternate among different personalities at Thursday’s sentencing, told Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Richard Thorpe he was sorry for what he had done.

Thorpe agreed to recommend to the state Department of Corrections that Greene continue to receive treatment for his mental disorders, but sentenced Greene to life in prison.

“One does not have a constitutional right to an unlimited number of second chances,” Thorpe said.

Green’s previous “strikes” were indecent liberties convictions in King County in 1984 and 1988.

According to charging papers, Greene’s therapist visited him in his Everett apartment on April 29, 1994, because he allegedly had been suicidal.

Greene attacked her, ripping off her blouse and fondling her. He then tied her up, taped her mouth shut and left, according to trial testimony.

She managed to free herself and run to a nearby hospital.

Since the attack, the woman has been a vocal supporter of Greene and a hostile witness for the prosecution.
