Chemical Explosion Injures 4 Workers

An explosion at Germany’s third-largest chemical company injured four lab workers and severely damaged a research lab, the company said Monday.

A gas-liquid mixture exploded Sunday evening at BASF AG during research on an additive for animal feed, said company spokesman Bernd Gerling. The company is investigating the cause of the explosion.

Gerling said the company had performed the same procedure repeatedly over the past year without any problems.
