Abc Signs For Production Of Carvey Comedy Show

Lisa De Moraes\ The Hollywood Reporter

ABC has ordered 13 episodes of a Dana Carvey sketch comedy show for primetime midseason, the network’s entertainment division president Ted Harbert announced Wednesday.

The half-hour series will be written by Carvey and Robert Smigel - a former “Saturday Night Live” writer and head writer-producer of “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” - Harbert told reporters in Pasadena. The show will lampoon current events, including the 1996 presidential campaign.

Meanwhile, a few details were revealed about ABC’s much ballyhooed Beatles special, set to air in November. Instead of five hours over two nights, as originally promised, the special will run over six hours and three nights.

ABC, Michael Jackson’s network of choice these days, will air yet another show featuring the self-proclaimed king of pop, next Friday at 9:30 p.m. This one, a half-hour special called “Michael Jackson Changes HIStory,” will include footage of a recent recording session during which Jackson changed the lyrics of “They Don’t Care About Us.”
