Federal Employees Honored During Recognition Week
The following federal employees were honored during Public Service Recognition Week, May 1-7:
Arnold Housley, Air Force, Administrative Employee of the Year; Betty Farmer, Postal Service, Clerical Employee of the Year; Fred Chapman, Postal Service, Community Service Employee of the Year; Hazel Elliott, Postal Service, Manager/Supervisor Employee of the Year; Capt. Theodore Shelton, U.S. Central Command, Military Employee of the Year; Paul Nicolai, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Professional Employee of the Year; Nancy Strope, Air Force, Special Emphasis Programs Employee of the Year; Chris Boettger, Postal Service, Technical Employee of the Year; and Jennifer Corppetts, Bureau of Mines, a Special Recognition Award.
Guy Lounsbury, service chief of prosthetics and sensory aids service at the VA Medical Center, was named as the Federal Executive Association’s Employee of the Year for 1994.
Forty Spokane-area high school and college students were among 1,500 students across the nation to attend the National Minority Youth Health Careers Conference in Atlanta. Those attending and their schools were:

Eastern Washington University: Summer Daniels.

Lewis and Clark High School: Sarah Bryant, Adia Gant, Damecca Knight, Christina McCoy, Erika Migliore, Chalia Montgomery, Karen Nalls, Ariel Smith and Angel Troutt.
Medical Lake High School: Chad Hiatt.
Rogers High School: Twa-le Abrahamson, Matt Bland, Shawna Martin, Janel Olson, Randy Scott, Lorena Swan and Terry Swan.

West Valley High School: Alex Fernandez.
Gregory Morrison, a Washington State Bar Association Young Lawyer of the Year, has had his chapter, “Opening a Law Office,” published by West Publishing Co. in its multivolume set, “Washington Practice: Methods of Practice.”
Terrance Brown has been presented with the 1995 Outstanding Advocate for Equity Award by the state Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges.
Michael Podobnik recently attended the National Youth Ambassadors Forum on Tobacco Issues in Washington, D.C. He won the right to represent Washington state through the Smoke-Free Class of 2000 program, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and the American Lung Association. He will be in the eighth grade this fall at Chase Middle School.
