Man Breaks Into Car To Rescue Dog Animal Was On Verge Of Dying; Rescuer Won’t Be Charged
A man who broke into a locked car to rescue a dog he felt was in danger because of the heat won’t be charged.
But the prosecutor is looking at the police report to see whether the pet owner should be charged with animal cruelty.
Aaron Cook, 39, said the dog was foaming around the mouth and looked like it was about to die Monday afternoon, when the temperature hit 90, so he broke a car window to free the animal.
It was taken to a veterinary clinic, where Dr. Lewis Clark said it was on the verge of dying of heat stroke.
The dog, described as a small, white, pug-type animal, later recovered.
City attorney Kevin Tarvin said what Cook did was reasonable under the circumstance and he would not be charged with breaking into the car.
Tarvin said he was still reviewing the police report to see whether the city will file an animal cruelty charge against the owner of the dog.
