Stonehenge Replica Getting A Facelift
The concrete replica of England’s Stonehenge is getting a facelift that will include removing graffiti - from pencil marks left in the 1930s to spray paint from earlier this year.
The circle of concrete blocks sits on a hill overlooking the Columbia River. It was dedicated in 1918 as the first World War I memorial in the United States, and draws more than 80,000 visitors a year.
The harsh weather extremes of the Columbia Gorge have eroded the facades and tops of the 70 concrete columns and altar stones.
The $37,500 project should be completed within three weeks.
